Shuttle systems

For the distribution of products and goods on different conveyor lines, transfer cars are important components in the internal material flow. RBS offers a variety of transfer cars with different additional units. Depending on the task, they are individually adapted to the customer’s needs.

In the right place at the right time
- transport of pallets, mesh boxes etc.
  with short throughput times!

Industrial production depends on the right product being available at the right time and in the right place. On top of this, every company has its own individual requirements for the conveyor systems used for this purpose.

In such an environment, transfer cars are used primarily for the efficient distribution of products and goods to workstations, buffer lines, shipping lanes, pre-storage areas, etc. Compared to automated guided vehicles (AGVs), transfer cars have the crucial advantage that they can bridge simple linear transport routes in a much more economical and efficient way.

The RBS transfer cars are individually assembled from a modular system, which creates flexibility for individual adjustment. For example, models with mounted roller conveyors, chain conveyors or telescopic forks, with stationary or travelling drive are possible.

With acceleration values of up to 1.5 m/s2 and speeds of up to 3 m/s2, the transfer cars ensure fast and safe goods transport. Drive power and structural dimensions depend on the respective transport weight. As a result, pallets with a weight of up to 1.2 t can be transported.

The RBS transfer cars are usually designed for a temperature range of 0 to 40°C. The transfer car frame consists of the RBS profile, a special support profile made of anodised aluminium. Depending on the task and the associated requirements such as stability etc., the frame is bolted or welded. Other attachments can also be bolted or welded on as required

Efficiency and quality made in Germany

The transfer cars are individually adapted according to the specified task. The modular system enables a high degree of flexibility with consistently high quality, efficiency and an attractive cost structure. The customers benefit from more than 40 years of experience and a trustful cooperation and close coordination within the customer project.

The new RBS CabBee is a shelf shuttle running on rails which particularly excels through its flexible application possibilities. To achieve the specified throughput, the number of CabBee shelf shuttles used is simply adjusted.

Both low and high performance requirements can be implemented economically and flexibly with the CabBee shelf shuttle:

  • For low performance requirements, for example, only one single CabBee should be used which goes to another storage level through a lift if required.
  • The maximum performance is achieved if one CabBee is employed on each storage level.

Supplemented by vertical conveyors for feed and discharge, up to 600 double operations per passage can be accomplished.

Small moved masses enable high accelerations and speeds with maximum energy efficiency. Integrated load handling attachments protect your cardboard and plastic boxes during the transport as well as during storage entry and exit.

The high-performance energy storage system of the latest generation is reliably charged during each use of the level lifts through charging contacts. This allows an autonomous operation of the CabBee. As a result, complex and expensive energy supply systems in the area of the shelves can be omitted.

Shorter product lifecycles, more extensive product ranges, faster product or assortment changes and an ever-increasing number of purchased or semi-finished products due to a lower manufacturing depth place ever-increasing demands on intralogistics.

RBS shuttle systems and transfer cars offer you the opportunity to react quickly and cost-effectively. High throughput rates, high redundancy, good energy efficiency and easy scalability for adjusting warehouse performance without major costs or changes to the overall system. RBS shuttle systems can be used for classic storage tasks or as buffer storage, for workplace supply, for goods provision and for sort/order picking or commission-handling tasks.

The vehicle system SpeedPorter® developed by RBS combines state-of-the art drive technology with a high conveying efficiency and a quiet operation.

Induction lines supply energy to the individual vehicles and avoid wear and abrasion. Vehicle communication is contactless with slotted hollow conductors, a reliable and disturbance-insensitive transmission medium.

Control and communication are implemented by the RBS developed Vehicle Coordination System (VCS). This systems is the link between the superordinated storage management system and the individual vehicles. The VCS software includes the visualization on a touchscreen and informs the operators about all system conditions.

To ensure a high conveying efficiency and a smooth operation, the lines are equipped with distribution gates. With a changeover time of only 2 seconds, the newly RBS developed distribution gate allows, even with a 1:1 distribution, a reliable performance of up to 450 vehicles per hour.

To optimize the line load, the vehicles are constantly in contact with each other. As a result, the speeds are autonomously adjusted to the requirements and the distribution gates are changed over to the correct direction in due time. Due to the high positioning accuracy, the vehicles can be moved with small distances to the infeed and discharge points.
